  1. What is Backorder Service?

The Backorder Service is a standard service used all around the world. To order the Backorder service means to pre-register some goods or a service, in this case a domain registration. As soon as the domain is available, our system will try to register it for you. Obviously, it is not possible to register a domain unless it is available.

  2. Is Backorder your idea?

No, it is not. Backorder of COM/NET/ORG and other TLDs has been offered for years. Our Platon.org domain was also acquired through Backorder by Dr. Matthew Roller. Consequently, following negotiations in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2005, we bought the domain from him. At that time, the initial idea to provide a similar service with SK domains in Slovakia originated.

  3. Whom is the service primarily designated for?

The service is designated in particular for people who forgot to extend the registration of their domain, or those who want to acquire a domain that already has an owner. The latter case concerns domains whose registration is always renewed without paying the registration fee and thus serve only a speculative, rather than actual purpose.

  4. Is it possible to catch lucrative domains with your service? What are the chances?

Yes, it is possible. The probability, however, decreases with the attractiveness of a domain. Attractive domains are object of interest of several future owners. Their takeover thus becomes lottery that might, but does not have to be, successful.

  5. Do you oppose to domain trading and sale of domains?

No, we do not oppose to domain trading or domain renting. We perceive domains as a common tradable article. We welcome domain business. Nonetheless, we oppose to speculative holding on to domains without paying the annual registration fee.

  6. Why does the SK-NIC registry system allow keeping domains even without paying the fee?

We are not entitled to answer this question. It should be directed to the company SK-NIC, a.s. which is the main registrar of SK domains. The system follows SK-NIC's rules. The change of the rules is in the power of SK-NIC and it is out of our reach. We will gladly propose changes to the rules when we are asked to do so.

  7. What are your relations with SK-NIC? Does you service overload their servers?

Our relations with the company SK-NIC are very good, which proves also the registry contract signed between us in 2008. We try to minimize the load on SK-NIC's service caused by our service, as we let it run for only a short time, while it starts and finishes automatically. Morever, SK-NIC's network infrastructure has at its disposal a high quality firewall which prevents server overload.

  8. Is it possible to pay for the service only after successful takeover of a domain?

Unfortunately, it is not possible. The product is designed in an identical way as it is provided for COM/NET/ORG domains, for instance by the company GoDaddy.com. Within a purchased credit, you select a domain that you want to be monitored for you and if it expires, we will try to get it and register it for you. You may change the selected domain any time free of charge.

  9. What if a domain expires and its takeover is not successful?

You do not lose anything. Your credit remains valid and we go on. You may choose a different domain that you want to get or keep the same domain name. A lot of SK domains are only subject to speculation, so it is probable that this domain will again expire in a couple of weeks. By all means, we will provide you our Backorder service until we get some domain for you!

  10. Can getting a domain through Backorder take a long time, too?

Precisely, it can also take several years. Also, domains that never expire cannot be taken over this way at all. We are aware of this fact, which results from the nature of this service. Nonetheless, several dozens of SK domains expire every day. You can follow them on this list, updated on a daily basis.
